Federal medium voltage transformer replacement
Replacing the medium voltage backbone of a federal heritage and archival facility where outages risk preservation systems. The work was staged so that no single transformer outage took down the facility, then completed without interruption to records and climate systems. Federal facilities have the strictest scheduling, safety, and clearance requirements in the industry.
Two 2 MVA transformers (13,200 V to 600/347 V) removed and replaced one at a time using the tie switch
Medium voltage switchgear replaced including two Hydro Ottawa loop switches and two medium voltage breakers with protective relays, metering, potential and current transformers
New primary cable to feed the new transformers
Existing secondary breakers replaced with new high interrupting circuit breakers
Primary switchgear completed over one weekend; secondary board over two evenings
